How to Finish the Inside of a Shipping Container

If you’re customizing a shipping container to use as a living or working space, discover how easy it is to finish the inside with InSoFast closed-cell EPS foam insulation panels that will keep the interior dry, quiet, cozy and comfortable.

The inside of an unprotected metal container can feel like a tropical rainforest. Without adequate ventilation, right-sized HVAC equipment and proper insulation, it will be unbearably hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. It will also be susceptible to condensation when warm air comes in contact with the cool metal, which can cause mold, corrosion and poor air quality.

Choose InSoFast Insulation Panels

InSoFast CX Container Panels are specifically designed to insulate the side walls of shipping containers. The 44” x 24” panels have a thin profile and are just two inches thick, so you avoid taking up too much interior space.

The panels are lightweight, offer very high R-values, and can be affixed directly to the container sides with adhesive. Most installations can be completed by do-it-yourselfers with a utility knife, construction glue, and a caulk gun.

Alternatively, combine InSoFast InSerts for the container’s side walls, end walls and ceiling with InSoFast UX 2.0 or InSoFast EXi 2.5 panels to achieve maximum insulation and air-tightness and create a smooth surface for installing drywall and other wall finishes.

Once you complete the insulation, the interior finishing of your shipping container home is completely up to you. Drywall provides a clean, smooth finish and a ready-to-paint surface. Natural or varnished plywood can give the space a warm look. Fiberglass reinforced panels provide a tough, easy to clean, waterproof, washable wall surface.

Add interior partitions, or leave the space open. Enhance the useable area by adding an outdoor deck that can double as an outdoor living and dining area. The possibilities are endless!
