    2015 Exterior Projects

Since summer is officially here it’s the perfect time to get outside and fix up that first layer of protection for your home. Here are five inspiring Exterior InSoFast Projects from our archives to exemplify the possibilities:

An Exterior Retrofit with EX 2.5 Panels in Pennsylvania

Last summer we extensively documented this exterior retrofit project in eastern Pennsylvania. Some of you may remember our collection of videos from the ‘Summer Siding Series’, which followed the fantastic team of contractors at M-Jay Builders as they tore off the homes old aluminum siding in preparation for a James Hardie Siding retrofit. After the old siding was removed and the house wrap was installed, InSoFast EX panels were installed for superior exterior insulation and rain screen protection.

The three part project was a huge update for the 1960’s era home. With the addition of house wrap, InSoFast EX 2.5 panels and James Hardie weatherproof siding, the home was retrofitted to brilliantly withstand the intense climate variations of the Northeastern calendar year.

InSoFast ‘Cast-in-Place-Concrete’ Project in North Carolina

For this project in North Carolina, the builder liked the concept of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF’s), but wasn’t sold on the high price and intensive labor involved with ICF installations. InSoFast served as the perfect alternative. In the project InSoFast UX 2.0 panels were installed directly on both the interior and exterior walls of the cast in place concrete home. The builder saved a great deal of money using InSoFast for the project, plus the built in energy efficiency savings from the insulation will provide the homeowner with a lifetime of low energy bills.

Check out our Pinterest board: InSoFast North Carolina Project for extensive documentation of this Interior/Exterior project.

A Stucco & Stone Home in New Jersey

This retrofit project in New Jersey involved installing UX 2.0 panels on both the interior and exterior walls to increase the energy performance and comfort of the home. What’s particularly striking about this project is the wide variety of exterior finishes that were attached on top of the InSoFast panels.

A mix of stucco and a veneer stone were chosen for the front of the home for an attractive curbside appeal and a standard money saving vinyl was installed on the sides and back of the home. The project shows how the possibilities are endless in terms of exterior finishing on top of InSoFast panels. Siding, stone, stucco, you name it.

An Exterior UX Retrofit Project in Virginia

This exterior retrofit project in Virginia was similar to the Pennsylvania Retrofit project but InSoFast UX 2.0 panels were used instead. The homeowners were looking to update their homes energy efficiency with high performance insulation and weather resistant siding.

It’s easy to incorporate an InSoFast insulation retrofit into a residing project since the panels can be installed over your existing weather resistant barrier or house wrap to provide a layer of continuous insulation and a second weather resistant barrier. The project turned out great, leaving the homeowners with a highly insulated and cozy home.

An Exterior EX Project in Minnesota

With this exterior project the contractor chose to install a 1″ thick extruded insulation board directly onto the sheathing around the openings to maintain the thermal barrier. He framed the openings with 2x6s, nailing through the insulation board and sheathing into the structural wall.

Housewrap was installed over the wall and frames to complete the air and moisture barriers. Lastly, the InSoFast panels were installed, sometimes trimmed in order to align with the pre-existing structural framing.

    About our Panels

InSoFast panels are designed to incorporate multiple complex architectural functions in single, hassle-free design. This has enabled DIY-ers and professionals alike to blast through simple projects like basement and interior renovations, but how about exterior projects?

The exterior of your home or building is subject to much more extreme conditions such as direct summer sun, heavy winter snowpack, violent winds and driving rain. The exterior requires more complex measures to defend against the elements. Fortunately, we’ve simplified a lot of those processes, too.

While our UX 2.0 panel will suffice for most applications, our EX 2.5 panels truly shine in exterior applications due to the dual-sided moisture control channels. Our panels combine into one seamless design multiple parts of a rainscreen assembly with continuous insulation and built-in, nailable framing that’s ready for cladding attachment.

InSoFast panels reduce the complication of building an exterior wall assembly with an all-in-one rainscreen and insulation solution

A good rainscreen is intended to allow moisture from sources like rain, snow melt, and humidity to pass smoothly around the walls of a building ensuring it is not trapped in the walls where it can do damage. They do this by providing air channels and drainage points between the outermost exterior finish and the innermost weather-resistant seal.

The time-saving, labor-cutting, money-keeping benefit of InSoFast is that it combines the rainscreen with the insulation.
