    Siding Nailed to Insulation

    Siding Nailed to Insulation

InSoFast Continuous Insulation for Exterior Walls

InSoFast EX 2.5 is an R-10 continuous insulation (CI) weather screen assembly designed for exterior walls. It is part of a complete rain screen solution that maximizes energy efficiency coupled with advanced moisture management properties.

    Exterior Insulation in Pennsylvania

The panel’s rigid insulation and non-ferrous studs are integrated in a unique co-molding process that ensures strong wind load resistance for cladding attachment without sacrificing the thermal barrier. Attachment fasteners are isolated in a non-conductive medium with a ½” of thermal airspace.  Engineered drainage channels on both faces of the panel optimize performance of the rain screen by allowing multi-directional air flow.

    Nailed Insulation

This all-in-one, patented panel can be used to meet and/or exceed ASHRAE 90.1 requirements while saving time and money by reducing labor and in-field assembly costs. Exterior finishing options can include thin brick, metal panels, tile, cultured stone, stucco, and the popular cement board siding to name a few. All finishes mount to the same CI-System so that one building can have several different looks without disrupting the rain screen or the primary building envelope.

As part of an energy retrofit project, InSoFast EX 2.5 Panels were added to the exterior of a residential home in Pennsylvania. One of the largest issues for an energy-conscious homeowner in the Northeast are the dramatic seasonal changes. The climate in Pennsylvania can range from icy winters to muggy summers. Whether buried in wet snow or soaked by summer storms, chilled by the brisk fall or dampened by a moldy spring, the modern home has to face it all.

In this project the homeowners wished to re-side their house. Tear off the old conductive aluminum and replace it with durable James Hardie fiber cement siding. The fantastic team of contractors at M-Jay Builders contended for the idea of insulating and weather-proofing the home while the siding was off. Naturally, it would involve some extra work but it would ensure that neither the contractors nor the homeowners were wasting their time or money.

InSoFast EX 2.5 Panels are designed to integrate with and add to the development of a proper exterior weather screen. In conjunction with house wrap and weatherproof siding, EX 2.5 can powerfully withstand the extreme climate variations of a Northeastern calendar year.

The dual-sided moisture control channels help ensure that no moisture penetrates the wall assembly. The built-in studs have the same structural strength of 20-gauge steel studs yet, unlike metal, they do not conduct heat and will not disrupt the home’s thermal protection. Siding can be attached directly to the studs. All of these things work together to ensure money-savings, energy-savings, and value added to healthy home.
